Senior Year:Month-by-Month College To-Do List
September 2012
___ If you haven't taken the ACT or you're not happy with your score -- register for the ACT or SAT
___ Finalize your list of colleges with Mr. Ellis
___ Create checklist of application requirements, deadlines, fees, etc.
___ Secure application fee waivers from counselor or college adviser
___ Begin signing up- for campus visits, admission rep visits and interviews with Mr.Ellis
___ Start scholarship search (national, local and institutional)
October 2012
___ Register for ACT, SAT, and SAT Subject test (for more information on Subject test see Mr. Ellis)
___ If applying Early Decision/Early Action (see college glossary) to colleges start completing application and essay
___ Ask teachers, coaches, counselors or employers for letters of recommendations (Get 3 different letters)
___ Submit first draft of college essays and personal statements to Mr. Ellis
November 2012
___ Finish all application essays by the first Friday of the month
___ Apply to colleges with rolling admissions
___ Make sure ACT/SAT scores are sent to your college choices
___ Make sure transcripts forms are completed and sent to colleges
___ Get FAFSA Pin at www.pin.ed.gov
December 2012
___ Complete all college applications before leaving school for winter break
___ If you applied Early decision, you should have an answer by Dec. 15
___ Complete FAFSA CHECKLIST: gather all information needed to complete the FAFSA
January 2013
___Submit your FAFSA
___If you have new honors or accomplishments that were not included on your application, let colleges know.
February 2013
___ Correct or Update your Student Aid Report (SAR).
___ If you have any special circumstances affecting your family's financial situation, alert the college financial aid office.
___ Register for AP Exams.
March 2013
___ Admissions decisions start arriving.
___ Send copies of your FAFSA to any scholarship programs that require it as a part of their application.
April 2013
___ Compare all financial aid award letters form the colleges you've been accepted to
___ Make final decision, accept financial aid package and mail in deposits
May 2013
___ AP Exams
___ Study hard for finals
___ Send and thank you card to everyone who wrote you recommendation letter
